Shadow Bolt is a 3 resource ability that deals 3 damage to an ally or hero. If the character damaged is destroyed this turn then the controller of the destroyed character discards a card.

This is a pretty effective removal card as there are a lot of popular allies that have 3 Health or less (Fury for example) and the added penalty of a discard gives you a board and a card advantage.

This card will compete for deck space with cards like Vanquish. I prefer Shadow Bolt to Vanquish even though you might end up facing an ally that is not removed by Shadow Bolt alone the versatility of Shadow Bolt to target heroes and totems makes Shadow Bolt the better choice. The new Dark Portal card Shred Soul may start to compete with Shadow Bolt. Shred Soul may displace Shadow Bolt in my decks simply because Shred Soul removes the ally from the game.

In my warlock deck usually has a couple of Shadow Bolt cards for mid game removal or mid to late game direct damage.
